The days are growing longer, and temperatures are on the rise—spring is in the air. The changing of seasons may make you eager to work on some updates for your home, and this list of refreshing ideas is the perfect way to get started.
Declutter your home
Don’t finish your spring-cleaning without doing a decluttering sweep of your home. Go room by room, taking time to organize every shelf, drawer, and closet, and decide if you truly want each item. You may find that you have more things you don’t really love or no longer use than you think. Once you complete your purge, consider adding baskets to each room to reduce the number of items sitting around your home. You may even be able to sell some things you want to get rid of, giving you some extra funds for the rest of your home’s refresh.
Update your bedding
Warm weather is on its way, so make it a priority and switch out the bedding throughout your home. Put away any heavy blankets and sheets, and replace them with lighter options. Sheets made from linen or cotton are both excellent choices as they are lightweight, durable, and breathable. Add a mattress topper made of natural fiber to provide extra cushion and keep you cool during the warm months ahead. While changing your bedding, consider rotating your mattress—it’s recommended you complete this task twice a year to extend the life of your mattress.
Change your throw pillows
Bringing a springtime feel to a room is easy by adding the new throw pillows or pillow covers to the space. You can go with hues of green, blue, pink, and yellow to capture the feeling of spring, or decide to choose colors that are a little more neutral to make any room have that brand-new feeling. Don’t forget to switch out any blankets with more lightweight options to complete the transformation.
Add house plants
While you may be thinking about the flowers and plants you’re going to grow in your yard this spring, this is also a great time to purchase some new house plants. Adding greenery inside your home not only looks great, but it can have a variety of impacts on your health, such as lowering stress, increasing attention, and improving the quality of indoor air. Even if you don’t have much luck with gardening, the lady palm, philodendron, pothos, and spider plant are all low-maintenance options that add liveliness to any space.
Add an area rug
The right rug can be a decorating focal point that will add warmth to any room in your home. However, there is more to area rugs than simply looking good. They can decrease the noise from walking on floors, add a level of cushion between your feet and the flooring, and provide a layer of insulation from cold floors. Don’t forget to add a rug pad that helps protect the rug, prevent slips and falls, and add another layer of cushion. If you’re unsure of how large of an area rug to choose, check out this guide to make one fit for any space you have.
Bring the indoors outside
If you plan to entertain family and friends throughout the warmest months of the year, spring is the perfect time to update your deck and patio by bringing your living area to the space. A few simple changes can bring new life to your outdoor area. Start by adding new cushions to your furniture or a weather-resistant rug for your seating area. Try rearranging your furniture-a different setup may provide a better fit for your space. String lights will allow you to keep your parties going once the sunsets. Are you looking for something a little more in-depth? An outdoor kitchen can provide hours of warm-weather enjoyment for your household.
